Healthy Tiffin Series: Oats Moong Toastie – A Wholesome Snack for Kids

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • ¼ cup moong dal
  • ¼ cup oats
  • 1 tsp pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • 1.5 tbsp rice flour
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Bread slices (whole wheat preferred)
  • Veggies of choice: beetroot, carrot, capsicum, bell peppers
  • Oil, sesame seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves for tempering

Method

  1. Soak moong dal, oats, and pumpkin seeds for 30–40 minutes.
  2. Blend into a smooth batter with curd, rice flour, turmeric, and salt.
  3. Heat a tawa and add oil, sesame seeds, mustard seeds, and curry leaves.
  4. Dip bread slices into the batter and place them on the tawa.
  5. Top with finely chopped veggies.
  6. Flip and cook on low flame until both sides are crispy and golden.

This toastie is rich in plant-based protein, iron, and antioxidants—making it ideal for growing kids. Plus, it’s customizable with seasonal vegetables and easy to prepare ahead.
